5 Tips Mom Can Use To Balance The Work Load

There is no denying that Moms are masters at multitasking on a day to day basis. Between setting up work meetings, juggling dirty diapers and dishes, struggling with toddler meltdowns and attempting to balance it all, it’s no wonder Mom’s are struggling to attempt to live up to a work-life balance that everyone strives for. Countless hours are spent either in the office working, long commutes to and from play dates and work as well trying to climb their way up the corporate ladder.

Not only is this a huge struggle but the expectations over the last few years due to social media implied on Pinterest and Instagram can make it more damaging to try and do it all, and with a smile. The key though is to focus on a plan, get yourself organized and find the right balance between parenthood and being a professional in your career. Below are a few tips that can help you get to this.

Turn Your Guilt Into A Positive

Instead of punishing yourself for not being with your child, turn your thought process into a positive one and think about how you are helping your family succeed. Now that you’re working to support your family, you can now save money for your child’s college tuition or purchase clothes for your kids. Preparing a simple monthly budget template can make easy work of that. Keep in mind that you’ll have good and bad days and Mother’s should know that they are not alone when needing to discuss their feelings with trusted friends or co-workers. There are also support groups or blogs that can also help working Mom’s work out there guilt and help support ways to find some work-home balance in their life.

Make Mornings Simple

To help with the morning rush, help ease into it by doing these many mundane tasks the night before. Have your child help you pack their lunch by creating a small snack drawer and they can pick out a few things to add themselves. Laying clothes out also illuminates a few meltdowns in the morning rush too and setting out backpacks, shoes and any coats that are needed to grab on the way out of the door.

Have Your Own Space

If you are a work at home Mom, designate a spot in your home just for you to get your work done. This can be a simple desk, chair and comfortable pillow or an entire room if you have the space. As a fellow medical transcriptionist, I’m able to work from home and love being able to play a critical part of the clinical documentation process. There are helpful webinars from iMedX that actually helped reach my high-performance. They also offer state-of-the-art technology and services that are proven to work for healthcare providers worldwide as well as single hospitals to larger health systems. One of my favorite things are the educational webinars discussing new and upcoming coding techniques.

Family Calendar

A simple way to stay organized with activities, play dates, soccer games, work events and meetings is to have one family calendar where you can write everything down. If you set aside about 15 minutes every Sunday to prepare for the upcoming week and review what’s going can help you eliminate surprises during the week. If you’re unsure of a few things, put a reminder on your phone to follow up and double check.

Staying organized is also about having a clean environment. This means creating a small family command station near the garage where important papers and documents can be placed as well as chargers, cash, keys, sport games.

Limit Distractions

Although 24 hours in a day may seem like a long time, you want to make sure that you set a time limit when checking your email, making phone calls which are all things that you can while your kids are sleeping. Try to avoid multitasking, especially when it comes to having some quality time with your children. Focus on the tasks that you can do during breaks or lunch time and the time you spent getting things crossed off your long to do list.

There are several other tips that you can do to balance your workload that haven’t been talked about here. The biggest piece of advice that you can give yourself is take it one day at a time and know that you are doing the best you can. Not everyone has it all together, talk with your friends and family is you are feeling overwhelmed and surround yourself with a village of uplifting, supportivie people.
