Becoming A Food Blogger (Tips and Tricks To Make It Work)

Do you have a passion for cooking delicious food for your family and friends? Has someone recently mentioned that you should start a food blog because not only is your food incredible to taste but also because many would benefit from your easy recipes or culinary skills? If you have good writing skills and looking to connect to others in your area, then becoming a food blogger may be in your future!

Keep in mind that food blogging is not just about the food itself but also can be reviewing some local restaurants in your area, sharing some simple shopping guides or easy meals for busy working parents.

Research
One of the biggest tips I can give before you start a blog, begin researching what type of blog you want to have. Do you want to share favorite family recipes? Do you just want to visit local restaurants and give your opinion on their food for neighbors to share?

Once you have an idea of what kind of blog you want, research some of your favorite and see what makes their content stand out to you. Is it their photography? Do you love their easy content that makes it simple to read at a glance? You should save these but also reach out to the blogger too and start a relationship with them. Ask questions and get the answers to why they love blogging, how they got started and any advice they can give to help you along the way.

Sharing YOUR story
One of the biggest ways to connect with your audience isn’t just the fancy pictures or recipes but sharing your personal connection/story with them. Sharing a story is what helps readers and people share your content because they can resonate with what you are saying. It doesn’t stop just with your written content or graphical content. It’s just as important for photography and videos to tell your story as the words that we put into the posts.

Peter Guzzo, an award winning Executive Producer, Director and Creative, has proven this over and over with his own work. His heart-wrenching PSA on Human Trafficking in Tampa shows how powerful sharing his story and the creative work can be. Peter works at a company he created called Kestum Bilt. They are a full-service video production agency with an award-winning team of editors, business managers, writers, directors, and producers. Their services include onsite production, post production, professional video editing and creative consulting. If you want to learn from the best at creating videos, you’ll want to reach out to this New Jersey business as soon as possible!

Good Lighting
One reason many food bloggers may not get many shares to their blog is the lighting of their food isn’t the best. This does take some practice and I would argue that if you want to become a food blogger, lighting is key when taking your pictures and taking a video of how you make your recipe. For starters, always try to get your footage early in the morning or the evening when the lighting is softer.

Filming during the day may have light coming from overhead and it could create some harsh shadows on your subjects. IF you do need to film during the day, try to do it on a cloudy day or try to find some shade for softer light. These pictures are key to helping others, especially on Pinterest, share these recipes with others so make sure you play around with this.

Stay Focused
My last piece of advice would be to keep publishing recipes and blog posts as often as you can. Don’t let it gather dust. Adding content regularly will bring repeat visitors, help you gain a fan following and also secure a better ranking when it goes to Google search. If you can write a blog per day (or if you are just starting off, just one per week) that will keep you current with your followers. Even on days that you might not want to publish, work on brain dumping and spend a few minutes putting your favorite recipes together. Think of what the season installs, what popular recipes will be needed by your followers and what your audience is looking for.

Now that I’ve shared a few food blogger tips and tricks, does it help you think that this might be the push you need to start your own? Every day is not always perfect so give yourself the grace you need but I highly suggest just starting! Share with your close friends and family and let them know your excitement in starting this journey. It’s worth it!
