National Taffy Day | Cherry Taffy
I have a big problem. I can go broke at the dollar store. Yes, THE DOLLAR STORE. Do you want proof? Here it is.
Yeah, I fill my hands with as much as I possibly can, and then make whomever I’m with do the same. Everything is a dollar. How can you not buy everything?! Then, in affect, I spend way more than I would’ve if I had gone to a completely different store to begin with. The one thing I always have to buy is taffy. Granted, they’re no saltwater taffys, but I love it so much. It’s my absolute favorite.
For National Taffy Day, I wasn’t sure what to do, but I was sure that taffy would be nearly impossible to make. Well there are a number of homemade taffy recipes out there on the internet, all of which don’t seem so bad and actually resulted in taffy. I started to feel confident as I started following one of those recipes. I was still confident when I poured the mixture onto baking sheets to harden.
But when an hour later the taffy mixture had barely solidified, my confidence slowly started to come down. This was not going to work, I suddenly realized.
I’m not sure if it was me or the recipe I followed, but here is my terrible “taffy”. Worst taffy ever, I’m fairly certain. Normally when a recipe doesn’t work out, I try again, but this’ll take a little bit of time and I plan on fully enjoying my Memorial Day weekend. I plan on coming back to National Taffy Day, updating this post with a successful taffy, and I’ll let you know when I do.
For now, I currently have this taffy in the fridge, hoping it’ll help get this candy to the right texture so I can actually work with it and create some semblance of taffy. We’ll see what happens, but I wanted to make sure you all knew that my kitchen isn’t ever perfect.
Sometimes, it’s really far from it. And I’m okay with that.
