National Popcorn Day | A Popcorn Trio
Oh yes, my friends. National Popcorn Day is here. Popcorn is one of those snacks I never tire of. I have to be careful to make just as much as I should be eating because otherwise, I definitely consume the entire thing, even beyond the point of feeling a little sick. I don’t know how to stop. Neither does my husband. It’s really bad.
One of the wedding gifts we received was a theater stovetop popcorn popper and it’s easily the most used kitchen gadget besides the everyday things. Mike frequently makes popcorn for in-house movie nights, and we also pop popcorn to take with us when we go out to the movie theaters. It’s a great thing to have for any kitchen and we love creating new popcorn to enjoy.
All credit for this post goes to Mike because he was the one who thought of the popcorn flavors and made them all. He also put the popcorn into these colorful bowls, and arranged the photo. 🙂 He’s the greatest helper bee there is.
One of our go-to flavors is the ghost pepper salt variety. We visited a spice shop in St. Pete and had the ghost pepper salt blend recommended to us by the owner, Paul. Tasting a little, it wasn’t as nose-running, eyes-watering hot as one would imagine anything ghost pepper to be. Yes, it was very spicy, but it had so much flavor. We bought a container right away and have been making Ghost Pepper Popcorn regularly ever since. If you aren’t from around these parts, and you don’t have a Savory Spice Shop close by, you can order this spice online starting at $2.95. I highly, highly recommend it.
Next, there was Chocolate Spice Popcorn. Using a little less ghost pepper salt and adding some melted chocolate chips, this flavor was pretty good too. Mike loved it, as did our neighbor, but if you know me at all you know that I’m not a huge fan of chocolate. Any chocolate lovers, and especially those who know how well chocolate mixes with spice, will very much appreciate this simple popcorn. Again, order the ghost pepper salt!
During our visit to Savory Spice Shop, we also purchased a bottle of Honey Powder. I could see myself using this on so many things, and I have. The spice starts at $2.00 for a 2 oz. bag. Totally worth every single penny. But, even if you don’t have honey powder, the flavor is easily obtained by just mixing the popcorn with honey. Simple as that.
Popcorn really is such a simple item. When you dress it up, it’s still not even that complicated, and it takes on all flavors. What flavors do you like on your popcorn?

Honey powder looks to be a must buy…And the ghost salt pepper is intriguing, too, Jennifer…BTW Love the reasons for your blog =) Bet you’ve inherited some fantastic family pasta recipes.
I say you buy that Honey Powder. It’s amazing! I’m sure you can use it in many of your baking items. 🙂
Ha… I had no idea there was a national popcorn day! What a great way to celebrate it! I love popcorn. And these flavours look delicious… especially the honey one! Pinning! 🙂
Until I started this national food holiday project, I had no idea there were this many, and such off ones too! There are even some days that I don’t even know what the item is. Guess I’ll have to learn!
OMG I didn’t know this day existed! Love it! 🙂

Me neither until I started with this! We love popcorn so what a great way to celebrate, lol.
While I’m not a crazy popcorn lover (crazy, I know), I must say, these recipes look delicious! Ghost pepper? Wow. Right up my alley. Think I’m gonna have to get to savory spice shop for that stuff asap. Super fun post 🙂
YES, Ghost Pepper Salt. The trip to downtown St. Pete is totally worth it for this stuff.
