Why I Decided to Become a Beautycounter Consultant
I’m a Beautycounter consultant. There, I said it. I’ve spoken those words to all of three people, I think mostly because I was shy about it all. If you know me in real life, you may know that I am the furthest thing from a salesperson. In fact…
I’ve worked as a recruiter two times in my career and you want to know something equal parts embarrassing and funny? In neither job was I able to place a single individual at a company. That’s definitely not a statistic I’m overly proud of, but sales is just not in my blood. And, at the end of the day, recruiting is partly sales. You are finding those potential employees, you are selling the role to them and then you’re selling the talent to the business.
Anyway, I am hyper sensitive to looking like I’m pushing products and I guess I was nervous about what you all would think when you heard that I decided to take this step. Would you look at anything I discuss about Beautycounter with a side eye and wary thoughts? Or is this the safe space I feel I created?
I had these same thoughts before I paid for my enrollment kit, too. But now is the time to share and explain why.
Why I Became a Beautycounter Consultant
In a nutshell, it’s because I care so deeply about safer products for all. For you, for me, for our families and friends, for our neighbors. Why is it still okay that the beauty and self care industries aren’t regulated? Why is it okay that conventional products can be laced with chemicals and trace minerals that are known to affect our bodies?
How can the word “fragrance” in an ingredient list be a catch-all for thousands of harmful ingredients? HOW IS THIS OKAY?
The beauty and skin care industry has been around for a very long time and yet I’m blown away by the fact that conventional beauty brands aren’t taking the steps to make their products safer, more sustainable, better for people and the environment, and yet make sure they are still effective.
Fact: I want to convert you. I want to encourage you to buy better food, use safer skin care and beauty products, clean your home with plant-based cleaners and take steps to care for our environment by purchasing from companies with sustainable, environmentally-friendly business practices. I want to advocate for no animal testing.
::sigh::
Ever feel that you are pushing a very large rock up a very steep hill?
If there is any way that I can have a voice and truly, genuinely encourage someone to make a change in their life, I want to do it. It’s a supreme passion of mine. (Little known fact is that I’m going to be changing the name of my blog to incorporate these things.)
I’m 90% not in this consultant business for the money. I’m not going to lie and say the benefit I could receive wasn’t some kind of factor in deciding to be a consultant and not just a buyer. But, I’m doing it because I want to make a difference. Those who know me know that this mission is so much in the forefront of my mind, that I can’t remember a time when it wasn’t.
I have been studying this industry for over two years. I’ve tried countless products that are safer, organic, natural, non-toxic. I know about the chemicals and the sneaky ways brands get away with calling themselves a safer alternative when they really aren’t. I’m tired of being lied to in this industry and I c
