I’ve been waiting for this day for basically my whole life. More accurately, I’ve been waiting for this day since mid-October 2016 when I first heard the news…the news that M&M’S® has a new flavor coming out. It only happens to be one of my favorite flavors and so as my anticipation grew, it seemed like time was crawling by. But, it’s here now! M&M’S® Caramel will be coming to a Walmart near you starting in May!

Now let’s talk about the excitement that goes beyond the giveaway. This is primarily a food blog so it probably comes as no surprise that I like to dive into the process behind food, the science of food and the body and manufacturing and pretty much everything.

You may think that M&M’S® Caramel could’ve come out a while ago and saved us all years of heartache wishing there was an M&M’S® with our favorite flavor, but trust me when I say that not only are they worth the wait, but there was a reason behind the wait that I think we can all appreciate. This particular process actually took years to perfect because the “lentil” inside each M&M’S® Caramel candy had never been filled with such a soft center. Engineers had to figure out how to keep the chocolate at the right consistency so it wouldn’t melt or collapse. 😮 Isn’t that cool? Who knew that something that seems so simple (yet amazing) as M&M’S® Caramel candies could have been on the minds of engineers for longer than we’ll probably ever know.

These M&M’S® are chewy inside with the traditional outer shell we all know and love. Although there is that traditional element, M&M’S® Caramel is not your traditional caramel. They’re fun, they tastes great, they’re nostalgic and new all at the same time. Let’s celebrate M&M’S® and their ability to unsquare caramel!
