National Potato Chip Day | Sweet Potato Chips

Ah, the potato. There are so many great things to do with this starch. My favorites, in order, are:

  1. French Fries. Really, how does one stop eating french fries? I think I could eat french fries for days and it takes an enormous amount of restraint not to, and to get me to stop once I’ve started.
  2. Potato Chips. Amen to National Potato Chip Day today! Salt and Vinegar potato chips are my absolute favorite.
  3. Garlic Mashed Potatoes. I make these garlic mashed potatoes that are unbelievably simple, but again, I could eat them for days.
  4. Stuffed Baked Potato. There is a deli by my house that makes these huge stuffed baked potatoes. They are a meal in and of themselves. They’re mutant potatoes, which probably spells GMO, now that I think about it. Whoops. Anyway, I opt for the one stuffed with cheese, pico de gallo, southwest chicken…basically the works. Seeeeee?

So, naturally, National Potato Chip Day makes me happy. I had one single sweet potato left in the house so that’s what I ended up using. It’s important in these food holidays for me to use what I have. I hate when food goes to waste even more than I hate shelling out tons of money for groceries.

Sweet Potato Chips via TheFoodiePatootie.com | #snack #sweetpotato #recipe #foodholidayYeah, there is little more annoying than making a grocery list, spending what seems like an exorbitant amount of money (compared to the usual grocery bill pre-food holiday challenge), and then realizing that you had a number of items on your list buried in the cabinet at home. This is especially annoying when it comes to dried spices.

So, in the midst of food holiday cooking, I have slowly started organizing all cabinets. It’s coming along very nicely and even better that I had these chips to snack on while doing it. For the sauce, I thought I’d mix together Sriracha and honey. It’s a little strange and I think next time I’ll use more honey and add just a tad bit of Sriracha, but it still worked as it was.

While I’ll always prefer Idaho/Russet potatoes over sweet potatoes, I do enjoy a sweet potato chip and sweet potato fries every once in a while. How about you?
