National Hot Toddy Day | Hot Toddy Icing
“What the heck is a Hot Toddy?”
Those were the words that came out of my mouth when I first saw this day on the food holiday calendar. Then, kind of like magic, I started hearing about Hot Toddys everywhere. I guess it’s because winter was beginning…and the cold season. Apparently, the Hot Toddy is a good drink for both situations.
I saw so many Hot Toddy variations on the interwebs that I didn’t know in which direction to go. I also wanted to give it my own twist. Hot Toddy icing was born.
When I was making a Frittata Florentine for breakfast the other weekend, I had my mom over to enjoy it with us. I also made Blueberry Pancakes (stay tuned on January 28th for that recipe) and some cinnamon rolls.
Cinnamon rolls play a big part in my childhood for sure. I couldn’t have my mom come over for breakfast and not serve them. I didn’t make my own- they were from a Pillsbury can- but it’s the same can I’m used to from when I had friends sleep over and we’d wake up to the sweet scent of cinnamon rolls fresh out of the oven. My mom’s the best. She even saved the remaining icing for me to eat, mmm!
My friends and I would devour these and then go on to play outside, watch TV, or just go back to sleep.
Unfortunately, the Hot Toddy Icing didn’t come out right at all the first go around and the pictures shown here were taken yesterday on the second attempt at this recipe I made. A lot of the time, I just throw stuffs together and hope it works (with some basic knowledge about ingredients). I think my main issue the first try is that I used too much liquid and it was impossible to recover without using an entire bag of confectioners’ sugar, and ultimately, wasting food at the end of it.
I really should have taken a picture to show that not all recipes are great the first time around these parts. This food challenge is hard!
Anyway, I finally got it. You can definitely taste the liquor from the Hot Toddy so unless you plan on icing some without it, just enjoy on a weekend morning with adults, mmkay? 😉

I’m into it. We need to plan a boozy brunch. This would be perfect!
I’m into the boozy brunch.
I LOVE this because I just made Hot Toddy’s for the first time LAST night. Who knew it was within a day of the National holiday?! 🙂 This frosting looks SO yummy. I’m going to have to try it sometime soon. Thanks for sharing!
Ahhh so cool! Yup, national holiday, which is still really weird to me, all these foods that have a day dedicated to them, lol.
So I am pretty obsessed with Hot Toddy’s. They are my go to drink when it is cold outside. I never thought of making icing with them though! This is pretty brilliant 🙂
I remember you mentioning Hot Toddy’s during our dinner at Flamestone! It was delicious as an icing and I will definitely remember the drink the next time I have a cold, or it’s cold outside.
