National Hot-Buttered Rum Day | Hot-Buttered Rum Cocktail
A week ago I made Hot Toddy Icing for my breakfast cinnamon rolls. Hot-Buttered Rum is very close to this drink except includes butter. Admittedly, I was running low on time for this food holiday so I made the drink without much fanfare, but it’s just delicious on it’s own without making it into something new.
It’s a sunny Friday here in Florida and pretty chilly (by Floridian standards, of course) at 62 degrees. I’ve never had a Hot-Buttered Rum cocktail before but armed with my coat, I felt the part. One step out on my front porch and after one sip of this drink, I realized that this is a new favorite of mine. It’s like a grownup hot chocolate…kinda.
Cheers to cool weather and the cocktails that warm us!
- 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1/3 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- Pinch of salt
- Spiced Rum
- Boiling water
- In a medium bowl, beat together the butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and salt until smooth. Refrigerate until slightly firm.
- Scoop 1/4 cup of the butter mixture into each mug. Fill the mug halfway with rum and the rest of the way with boiling water. Stir until combined and sprinkle top with cinnamon.
Tomorrow: National Peking Duck Day
I really, really want to try this tomorrow! The high here is like 60-something tomorrow so it would be perfect as an after dinner treat. And, you know who would REALLY love it? The husband. That’s who.
I really think he will!
I’ve never liked the butter in hot buttered rum but the rest is tasty. If you haven’t tried Kracken yet, it is the best!
We have Kracken here! Yes, I love the taste of it!
Cheers!! That looks fantastic!
Thanks, Nikki! It was much needed in the middle of the afternoon today.
Happy Hot Buttered Rum day – boy we could use this drink right now in Minnesota!
Oh man, I’m sure you could! I can’t even imagine the weather.
This is a must do! Thanks for the sweet twist on the classic cocktail 🙂
It was so awesome! Have a great evening, Nikky!
