National Croissant Day | Steak, Arugula, Provolone Croissant Sandwich
Croissants are one of those items that I can eat constantly. I can’t even buy them in the store because I’ll slap some butter on every one of those puppies and go to town and well, that can’t be healthy. In fact, I now know how much butter goes into a croissant so unfortunately, I limit myself to the occasional splurge, or National Croissant Day!
I could have done a million things with National Croissant Day (including stuffing my face), but ultimately, I thought a croissant sandwich would be perfect. This is not the greasy croissan’wich that comes out of a very popular fast food joint. I shudder at the thought.
Instead, I decided to place steak, provolone, arugula, roasted red pepper and balsamic in between croissant pieces and then I immediately sighed at the tastiness of it all. Grilled croissant made for a sandwich that had a crunch while also remaining flaky inside.
A croissant sandwich is a different take on any sandwich and you can even up the ante and make this into a more elegant dish. As for me, I just couldn’t wait to sink my teeth in.
- 2 ounces filet steaks
- Salt and pepper to season
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 croissants
- 8 slices of provolone cheese
- Handful of arugula
- 1 roasted red bell pepper, cut into slices
- Balsamic vinegar, drizzled
- Season the steaks with salt and pepper. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and melt the butter. Cook the steak to your liking (I preferred medium-well in this case). Set aside for a couple of minutes before slicing.
- Slice steak into pieces at desired thickness.
- Slice the croissants in half lengthwise and grill or toast the croissant.
- Assemble the sandwich: 2 provolone cheese slices on the bottom half, then arugula, steak slices, roasted red bell pepper, more arugula and finally, 2 more provolone cheese slices.
- Drizzle with balsamic vinegar.
Oh my, this looks like heaven!
Thanks!! 🙂
I love croissants! I never think to use them to make sandwiches though 🙂 Pinned – stopping by from DBB!
OOOh, this looks SO good! I think until I am done with the Whole 30, I have to stop reading; I want ALL the food!
Mmm, this sandwich just made me super hungry. Looks so good.
Hahaha, I’m hungry just responding to your comment. 😉
I’ve actually made my own croissants…once. They were pretty good. I’d like to make them again. Roast beef and provolone makes an awesome sandwich. You’re almost through the first month! WTG 🙂
I’m officially through the first month now!!! Thanks for the support. 🙂
This looks delicious! I pinned it on Pinterest so I can remember to come back and try it sometime. Now I’m hungry! 🙂
Thanks, Liza! I have to admit that I patted myself on the back with this one. 😛
I love a good ole croissant, especially with cheese and ham. SO, this is right up my alley.
If it’s not steak croissant sandwiches, it’s tuna melts. Yum!
Yummy! Will have to make this sometime soon
Croissants are one of my biggest weaknesses in the bread world. There’s nothing better than a flaky buttery one and they make the perfect start to a delicious sandwich. Filet croissants – yes ma’am!
I love croissants so much too. I just can’t buy them as often as I want (read: EVERY SINGLE DAY) because they aren’t the healthiest things in the world, but they are a nice little indulgence every now and again.
When I saw that this post was about National Croissant Day, I was really worried you would try to make your own. I was like “Noooo! She doesn’t have time for that!” So time consuming, and really, not worth it! haha.
I’m glad you did this recipe instead. I make croissant sandwiches from time to time (so good!), but I don’t think I’ve ever done a steak one. This is something I could see myself eating for a light dinner in the summer.
Haha, Lori, Lori, Lori. You are so right. I absolutely did not have time to make my own croissants. What a process. Not to mention that my kitchen is so small. I just can’t, lol. I mostly eat croissant sandwiches with tuna salad, but the steak was great!
Seriously. Nothing beats a sandwich on a croissant. Nothing.
I love your recipe design — it’s super cute!
Glad to have found you through SITS 🙂 ~Jenna
Thanks for visiting, Jenna!
