National Cereal Day | Puppy Chow
Are you a salty or sweet snack lover? Are you both and just never have any idea what to have to satisfy your tooth? Well, puppy chow is that snack!
It’s kind of cruel to call this snack puppy chow when dogs can’t even have a little taste alongside their humans because of the chocolate in the recipe. I mean, really. How is that fair? My dog loves the smell of puppy chow and I have to battle her advances so she doesn’t get sick. Poor Bits dog.
I find Puppy Chow to be the perfect snack at any time. I have more of a love for salty snacks than sweet, but this is such a nice combo, and being that it isn’t overly sweet, I never feel sick after eating an amount of the stuff that I probably shouldn’t have. Puppy Chow is a really easy recipe, too. I mean, in no time you have a bag of it that you can enjoy for days. Portion out for work snacks, after dinner snacks, or if you are running behind, breakfast (the main ingredient is cereal so it’s okay, right?).
I’ve been making this snack for as long as I can remember. In fact, 99% of the time that I eat cereal is when I’m having it this way. How’s that for love?
- 9 cups Chex cereal
- 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup smooth peanut butter
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
- In a saucepan over medium low heat, melt the chocolate chips. Add peanut butter and butter. Mix until smooth.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Add cereal and stir until coated.
- Pour powdered sugar into a large plastic bag, add coated cereal and shake until well coated.
