Raise your hand if you have, or have heard others, refer to Werther’s candies as ‘grandma candies’. Yeah, I’m sure there are a number of you. That’s what these sweets are known for. I’ve here to prove you wrong today. I have loved Werther’s for an incredibly long time and to this day I buy myself a bag every now and again. Granted, I did originally try Werther’s at my great grandmother’s house way back in the day…

Well Werther’s, in case you don’t know, are hard caramel-flavored candies. I can distinctly remember this being my first caramel flavor, and if not, it’s certainly the first one I’m remembering because it was just that good.

Now, caramel flavor is one of my favorite things. Caramel coffee, salted caramel desserts, the chewy version of Werther’s- Brach’s Milk Maid Royals Caramels- and of course, caramel popcorn.

It’s a little nuts that out of all the food in the world there exists a National Caramel Popcorn Day, right? I think this about the majority of the food holidays though… Like, who comes up with this stuff? Who deems it a national ‘whatever’ day? By the way, that actual day does exist. May 11th is National Eat What You Want Day (I’m making something special).

I’m pretty happy that National Caramel Popcorn Day takes up one of the food holidays. While I’m in this project not only to bring new recipes to my readers and have a guided list with which to do it, but also to improve my own ways in the kitchen, I am so grateful for the simple days. Caramel Popcorn is about as simple as you can get, and that’s always something to enjoy too, right?

The best way to make popcorn is with the best popcorn maker in the world. Trust.
