A Summer Party Should Always Have Corn and Watermelon

Fresh From Florida sweet corn and watermelon are now in season!
Welcome to the hottest time of the year. You know, us Floridians never actually get 100% used to the heat, but we do have a pretty high tolerance for it. Do you want to know our secret?
Lots of water, loads of fruits, fun with friends. It’s easy to get bogged down by the heat and humidity; it’s easier to find some shade (or enjoy time indoors) and enjoy refreshing food that’s picked at season’s peak.
The other weekend I hosted a small get together so we could enjoy some of our favorite summer produce to come from local farmers. Let me tell you…there is little that gives me greater pleasure than being able to support the farmers who supply our food. Don’t we owe it to them for all of the hard work they put in to make sure our families are enjoying fresh, quality, delicious food?
Here is the Fresh From Florida produce options that are currently in season: sweet corn, watermelon, tomatoes, blueberries, bell peppers, mangoes, and star fruit.
At our gathering, I had chopped up watermelon and corn (with something special done to either one because they simply don’t need it), fool-proof grilled chicken breasts, a salad with strawberries and a champagne vinaigrette, and baked gnocchi. Plus, I made my homemade sloppy joes for the kids!
Have fresh watermelon and sweet corn at a spring or summer gathering and you can never go wrong. They are produce items synonymous with the season and always delicious, juicy, flavorful. I’ve also had grilled watermelon and corn for past parties. I’m pretty sure everyone has had grilled corn, but what about watermelon? Yes, your favorite red fruit can also be beautifully grilled and topped with fresh basil and salt. It’s the most delicious thing!
Anyway, tis the season to grab these Fresh From Florida produce options and enjoy a little party of your own. Let me know how it goes!
