A National Food Holiday Challenge
I love to cook. I can’t pinpoint the exact moment that I went from only making myself items that come frozen and get cooked in an oven or microwave to creating large multi-course meals for a get together, but it happened.
I have to credit the great cooks in my family. Thankfully, they are plentiful so I grew up with lots of homemade dishes that were passed down from generation to generation. I have knowledge cooks in my family and I have a great network of friends who supply me with recipes on the regular.
Throughout the years, I have experimented in the kitchen, attempted to get those family recipes just right (it’s not possible), tried many different foods for the first time, and cursed the fact that I don’t have a huge chef’s kitchen, but most of all, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every moment making a meal.
A couple of months ago, I had a crazy thought. As most of my crazy thoughts go, I decided to implement and stick to a plan.
I’m here to share what the main direction of this blog will be for 2014. I had the brilliant (or maybe it’ll turn out to be not so brilliant) idea to make a dish and then share the recipe for every National Food Holiday. Every day of the year has at least one food holiday associated with it and some have 2 or more.
I am going to end up having well over 365 posts for 2014, which is insane for me to think about. How I am going to balance a full time job, freelance work, a social life, and blogging into the finite amount of time I have at my disposal, I do not know. But, I’m doing everything in my power to make it happen.
I wanted to share this plan with you all so we can be excited together!
What a fun, clever, uber-challenging, holy shit kind of idea, Jenn! I can’t wait to watch it unfold.
Thank you, Heather! I’m glad you are along for the ride. 🙂 I’ve started already and I’ve been a cooking maniac lately without an end in sight. I like it that way though.
Dang! That’s one tough goal (expensive too!). I’d be impressed if you picked just one dish a week. So what calendar do you use to keep up with all of the food holidays? Can’t wait to see what you come up with.
Yay! So happy you are following through with this. It will be epic!
I am so nervous, but excited! Thanks for the support!
This is a great idea! Looking forward to following along. 🙂
How the hell are you gonna do this though?! Are you going to just have marathon cooking days once a week or something?
I spend every moment cooking, basically, haha.
