My Recap of the BuzzFeed Clean Eating Challenge

My Recap of the BuzzFeed Clean Eating Challenge

As of yesterday, I’m officially done with the BuzzFeed Clean Eating Challenge. If you’d like, you can view my recaps:

There was just one time when I was all, “ugh, I’m so done with this”. I think it was Day 2, when I absolutely hated my breakfast and lunch, and I was at work without any other options. However, I stuck with it because I’m a trooper, and also because I was actually pretty excited for the upcoming meals. Turns out they were pretty good and I would recommend this plan to anyone who wants a restart from their grease-loving ways.

There are three reasons I decided to stop my journey here, a week and a half done out of two.

1. I got behind and it’s so difficult to catch up. Just one morning of sleeping 15 minutes past my alarm and I was thrown off for the whole day. I had to rush to get ready for work (as luck would have it, it was one of those mornings after I had let my hair air dry the night before and I was a complete mess, like Sasquatch, if Sasquatch were five feet tall), which caused me to not have time for the breakfast on the plan and no time to make my lunch either. The only decent place around my work is Panera, which I made good decisions at, but it’s not BuzzFeed approved.

Then, the next day required leftovers of all this stuff I hadn’t made because my day was ruined.

2. I’m going out of town after work today. Even if I wanted to make the things I needed for future dishes (and I didn’t), there would’ve been a whole lot of wasting going on. The majority of it would just sit in my fridge for days before I come back from my mini vacation. I’m in the business of saving money and not being wasteful more than I’m in the business of making sure I adhere to a set regime of recipes.

3. I miss cooking my food! The whole year of 2014 was dedicated to the food holidays. That meant not always cooking what I wanted to be cooking on a given day, but instead, adhering to some schedule that I imposed on myself for some God unknown reason. (Because I’m so cray cray, you all.) The point is, I’m over making dishes because the food holidays say so, or BuzzFeed gave me a recipe. I want to go back to experimenting in the kitchen and hoping for good results, sharing them with all of you, and actually making breakfast I’ll enjoy.

Overall, I liked the BuzzFeed Clean Eating Challenge a lot. The dishes are pretty good (some I could do without), and they make it easy by telling you what to buy, when to buy and make, when to prep, how much of each item. I found that I had more leftovers than BuzzFeed says I should have, but then for meals that my husband wanted to get in on, I didn’t quite know how to make enough for the both of us, and still have leftovers of any particular item if the recipe called for it.

Also, I really wanted to love overnight oats, but they made me want to gag.

I’m indulging in pizza sometime soon – probably on a day when I can keep my gut in check, if you know what I’m sayin’. (I wonder when I’ll ever have this ‘shame’ that people speak of….)

How are you all doing with your resolutions? Check back in on Sunday when I talk about my word of the year and my 2015 blogging goals!!!!

Brava! I think you did a great job at keeping with it especially for things that you didn’t seem to like either. I’ve done a few cleanses or “clean eating” and have found that I have to modify them all – everything affects us differently. I think the most important thing about these things is learning what you do and don’t like and what makes you feel good and what doesn’t. I used to think gluten bothered me – turns out, not at all, and I realized in cleanses that include yogurt, eggs, and milk, I don’t do so well… Read more »
