I live in Florida and it’s scorching (my car registered 99 degrees the other day!), but summer is one of my favorite seasons. My schedule remains the same, but I think it’s the nostalgia of being on summer break and out of school, sipping on an iced tea (like Milo’s Tea [4]), enjoying the beach and pool with friends without a care in the world.
Speaking of iced tea, it’s the quintessential summer drink, right? So refreshing and when it’s super cold, there’s actually nothing I’d rather be drinking. Which got me thinking about summer festivities with friends and family and what cocktail we could enjoy in the backyard. I immediately thought of mojitos. Mojitos are also refreshing and light with the mint and lime juice. Which then lead to this blog post here featuring a Summertime Iced Tea Mojito. You will absolutely not regret making this, and your guests will appreciate you all the more.
Make a list of all the summer holidays (you’re going to need them and I happen to be a National Food Holiday [5] expert). June is National Iced Tea Month and June 10 is National Iced Tea Day, and of course you can’t forget about the 4th of July, which is the day for being near a grill that’s near a body of water. Celebrate accordingly.
Muddle up some mint with lime juice and sugar. This’ll release all the natural oils and flavors from the mint and really help to combine everything later on. Plus, it’s just fun to do!
Add mixture to a glass with ice, rum, Milo’s Tea [4] (I used unsweet since the mojito’s sugar content can be adjusted as needed) and a little bit of club soda for effervesces.
There really aren’t many steps to achieving your summertime anytime drink. Sip sip ahhh through your next gathering.
I really enjoy using Milo’s Tea in this recipe (I found Milo’s [4] at my local Walmart in the refrigerated juice section but they are available in lots of retailers. Find a store near you by using the store locator [6]) because I can taste a difference in this tea compared to others. It’s in the refrigerated section of stores because Milo’s is made with natural ingredients – no preservatives, colors, acids or additives.
This is a tea that’s not sitting in hot delivery trucks or on store shelves for months. It’s fresh and that’s exactly what makes it THE beverage for summer meal entertaining. I also love that it’s available sweetened with pure cane sugar, no calorie and unsweet options. The unsweet option was perfect for this recipe since the mojito can be sweet enough already.
When products have a history, it speaks to me. What can I say? I’m a fan of family and tradition and small businesses that succeed. Turns out, Milo’s Tea Company is a third generation family owned, certified woman owned business located in Bessemer, AL. Milo’s was originally a restaurant whose iced tea was so loved by customers, they started selling it to local grocery stores. The rest, as they say, is history. Just check out the ingredient list for yourself.
The year hasn’t exactly flown by and that’s quite alright by me. It’s time to enjoy these dog days of summer with drink in hand and friends all around. What are your big plans? Have you seen those massive floats being sold in stores? Because I’m pretty sure I’m about to get one of those and take up the entire pool.
Cheers!
