National Brandied Fruit Day | Brandy-Soaked Fruit
Today is another food holiday where I wonder how the food holiday came to be. Not to say that brandied fruit isn’t tasty, because it is, but how does one think, and love it enough, to make it into a national food holiday?
Oh well, I’m here to celebrate the food holidays and celebrate I shall do.
Brandied fruit is really very simple. I chose to package the fruit into these mason jars and pull them out when I needed a spiked topping for my ice cream. I recommend you do the same because there’s perhaps no finer way to wind down after a long day.
- 3 Tbsp sugar
- 1/3 cup water
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp allspice
- 2 cups brandy
- 1/3 cup blueberries, divided
- 1 cup strawberries, quarter and divided
- In a small saucepan set over medium, bring sugar, water, vanilla, cinnamon and allspice to a slight boil. Stir until sugar has dissolved, then remove from heat to allow to cool.
- Stir in brandy. Place fruit into two jars and pour brandy mixture over the top.
